READING THE ARCHIVE

Evidence, with its context.

Open Arcana documents specific restricted rites, initiations, texts, teachings and transmission rules. The explorer counts disclosure records, including research, publications, court records, leaks and other routes into public view.

Countries
Modern outlines help navigate the geography recorded for each tradition. They do not locate leaks or measure national prevalence. Broad regions and historical territories stay separate when no country can be assigned. Inspect the mapping ↗
The timeline
Marks use each disclosure’s recorded year, including approximate dates. They do not date a practice’s origin or performance. Undated records remain in the list when included. A source’s publication year is not necessarily the earliest public disclosure.
Historical context
“Founded before 1900” uses the tradition’s recorded origins. “Source before 1900” uses the source’s original publication year. Neither establishes that an individual rite is old, unchanged or discontinued.
Evidence assessments
Reviewed means checked against a source. Authenticity, claim support, independence and present-day practice are separate assessments. Open each record to see coverage and limitations. The seed collection is incomplete and is not a representative sample of world traditions.
